The Web Design Essentials Certificate covers broad web design and development skills and specific methods for achieving quick and efficient website production. The courses teach participants the necessary components to create and edit a website that attracts traffic continually.

Professionals enrolled in this course learn established principles of web design including planning, production, and maintenance without having to absorb unnecessary complexity and jargon. Participants learn how these principles apply in web design projects whose primary concerns are information design, interface design and efficient search and navigation.
Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) speeds up and improves website development. This course demystifies this technology and fosters quick and efficient website production. Create clean, attractive sites that use less code and can be modified to change the entire look of your site in minutes.
Participants in this course will gain an overview of Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), the primary language for publishing on the World Wide Web. Topics covered include HTML tags and attributes, lists, tables, links, color and text appearance, forms and frames. The second day of the course covers XHTML, CSS, as well as using multimedia files, submitting a site to a search engine and code validation. Professionals will have the opportunity to expand upon their knowledge of useful yet often overlooked tags.
One Web Editing Course
This course will introduce the tools and features used to create basic assets found on web pages. By the end of this two-day course, participants will be able to use Dreamweaver to build a complete website.
Learn how to setup and run your site on Wordpress. WordPress.com runs over 66 million websites including some of the largest sites on the web. This includes CNN, NBC Sports, TED, TechCrunch, Forbes and many other major news and publishers that all run on WordPress VIP. It is estimated that 17% of the websites in the world run on WordPress or use a customized WordPress framework. Fifty-two percent of the top 100 Technorati blogs run on WordPress and no other content management system comes close to matching that number (WordPress-53.8%, Joomla 9.2% and Drupal 6.7%).
This hands-on course focuses on practical business uses for search engine optimization. Participants will learn the latest techniques to give their web content the best results on search engines. This course will provide guidance on how to keep current with industry trends in this ever evolving field.
This course trains participants to use the more advanced features of the industry-leading web authoring and editing software Dreamweaver. Participants will learn to create standards-based websites and designs for desktops, laptops, smartphones, tablets and other devices. Dreamweaver I can be substituted if you did not take as a required course.
Create controllable and dynamic Web pages with Flash, a richly interactive multimedia program. Become familiar with many of the program's features by building a simple Web site, complete with an animated introduction and navigation system.
The two-day Introduction to Photoshop Class will teach professionals the fundamental tools and functions of the most widely-used graphics program in existence. Students will be given an overview of how the program is used in the real world, what settings should be used for typical output types, and what each tool is used for. They will also be instructed on proper file and layer setup and work-flow essentials. Photoshop II can be substituted if you have equivalent knowledge.
This course will train participants in basics of video production, utilizing state of the art editing software from Adobe Premier Pro Creative Suite 6. Students will learn to take a project from concept to finish, adding their own creativity. Hands-on exercises will be done in class. Video Production II can be substituted if you have equivalent knowledge.
Participants will focus on mastering the fundamentals of the software - through example, interaction and exercise - for the quick and reliable production of professional-quality documents of varying complexity. Students will leave the class comfortable in the InDesign CS6 environment and confident in their ability to use it. As time permits, specific individual goals will be addressed and taught. InDesign II can be substituted if you have equivalent knowledge.
Expected completion time is 2 to 3 terms. Must complete within 18 months of start date of first course.
